Advantages and Disadvantages of Hydro-Electricity
Hydroelectric power plants release water back into the rivers once it has passed through the turbine and is not polluted during the creation of electricity. hen producing electricity, the water produces little to no solid waste. When creating the powr plants, they can alter the ecosystem around them by floodin wildlife lands, farmland, and nature retreats. The dams can also cause erosion on the up and downstream riverbeds, which can disturb ecosystems even more. In Northwest America certain salmon populations depend on rivers for their lifecycles. The populations of these fish has been drastically reduced because of the great amounts of dams in the Columbia River Basin. The young salmon that swim down towards the ocean can be killed by the spinning turbine blades. Because of these deaths, some of the dams now have side channels to help the fish swim upstream.
